Through the magic of technology and Make Believe Labs, your children can now have a personal chat with Santa Claus on Skype. Dorian Collier, the CEO of Make Believe Labs, came up with the concept after having a chat with his son on FaceTime. His son asked if he could call Santa. Collier searched for a site that would allow his son to have a face to face chat with Santa over the internet, but he could not find one. So Collier decided to take the step and create a site himself. Accessible through an app called “Hello Santa”, children can now have a chat with Santa, ask questions, and tell him their Christmas list. For a sixteen dollar fee, children can talk to Santa without a set time limit.
The benefits to visiting Santa on Skype are many:
- No waiting in line in the cold or heat
- No hassle of dealing with a packed mall or venue
- No risk of illness from said packed venue
- No embarrassing tantrums
- Call can be made from the comfort of home
- Children are not rushed in their conversation with Santa
- Children with certain disabilities can visit Santa more easily
While these are all very attractive positives, there can be benefits to doing things the old fashioned way, too. It is nice to have the option to Skype with Santa, but it may not be as memorable or magical as seeing Santa in person.
The benefits to visiting Santa in person:
- Experience and memories of the visit
- Photo keepsake of child on Santa’s lap
- Interaction with other children and Santa in person
- Activity and exercise of going somewhere
- Patience gained from waiting in line
What do you think? Is technology taking the human contact out of even Christmas, or is this a better way of visiting with Santa?
