Rosa Cotto, a single mother of eight children living in South Florida, stood in line to get a free turkey at an annual Turkey giveaway hosted by a local radio station-Power 96, on Monday. When she got to the front of the line, she was given a turkey and then told she would not have to walk home with it. A local car dealership, Off Lease Only, decided to give Rosa Cotto a brand new Mazda SUV.
Cotto was suggested for the donation by one of the DJs from Power 96, Alex “Big Lip” Chisolm. He said he had seen Cotto struggling to get her children to games that he was coaching, either walking or relying on public transportation. Besides bringing the children to games, she also had to rely on public transportation or walking to get the children to the doctors when sick, grocery shopping, or wherever else they needed to go. Cotto would have to rise at six in the morning to use the public transportation and be on time for work.
Her Reaction to the Gift
When asked what she thought of the SUV, Cotto told reporters “I like it,” smiling with tears in her eyes she also added “and I needed it.” Her son had been in on the surprise, so he was waiting in the passenger seat for her. The radio station bid her a happy thanksgiving as she packed her Thanksgiving turkey into the back of her brand new SUV and drove home.
