Again George Zimmerman is testing the limits of Florida law. Zimmerman, the man that was acquitted in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin amidst a nationwide firestorm of controversy in 2012, has had yet another run-in with the law since the acquittal.
On Monday, 30-year-old Zimmerman was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, battery-domestic violence, and criminal mischief. Allegedly, an argument with his girlfriend, 27 year-old Samantha Scheibe turned heated when she asked him to leave the home that she was renting. He began to pack his things, including two firearms, allegedly cocking a shotgun. According to Scheibe she then told Zimmerman that she was going to contact police. Zimmerman became enraged, breaking a glass table with the butt of the shotgun and pointing it at her, asking her if she really wanted to do that. When Scheibe called police, Zimmerman pushed her out of her home and barricaded the door with furniture.
Zimmerman then called police himself, telling dispatchers that his girlfriend had “gone crazy on him”. Zimmerman told police that Scheibe is pregnant with his child, and she had decided that she wanted to raise the child on her own. He told police that he had decided to leave on his own, and she became enraged, breaking the table. Zimmerman was unarmed when police arrived at the home, and cooperated with arresting officers.
Other Incidents with Zimmerman
This is the second time within a few months that a woman has accused Zimmerman of violent behavior and brandishing a weapon against her. In September, Zimmerman’s wife Shellie filed for divorce and was removing things from the home that they had shared in Lake Mary when Zimmerman allegedly attacked Shellie and her father, pointing a gun at her. No charges are being filed, so that case has been dropped. Zimmerman has also had three traffic citations since the acquittal.
