The storm system that swept across Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Alabama bringing tornadoes and leaving many homeless, wounded, and even dead has continued the path of destruction. Flooding in Pensacola, Florida caused a road to collapse, killing one woman. The flooding has also left many homes destroyed, bridges in ruin, and people injured or fleeing. Over the past few days, the storm has caused flooding up the east coast of the United States, from Florida up through Delaware and parts of New York.

Storm Cleanup Efforts

State officials in those states affected by the storms have announced projects to repair roads and help repair damage from the storms. Florida governor Rick Scott travelled to Pensacola, the area that was most affected by the storm, to oversee efforts and assess future goals. In Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Oklahoma where some of the worse tornado damage occurred, many different organizations including the Salvation Army and Save the Children are taking donations of all types in order to assist displaced and injured storm victims.

Many of the homeowners that have suffered damage or destruction of property will not be receiving money from insurance companies, however. In many of the worse affected areas, flood and tornado insurance is not available because of the high occurrence of severe weather. Some of the organizations that have set out to feed and clothe storm survivors will be accepting donations to help victims find shelter in the wake of the destruction.
