Hostess Brands, LLC is the company formed in 2013 which owns the Hostess and Dolly Madison brand names is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. Owned by the private equity firms Apollo Global Management and C. Dean Metropoulos and Co., the company picked up several Hostess names in the spring for $410 million. Welcome the new boss, same as the old boss… except the Twinkies now last 45 days. Previously the produce had a 26-day shelf life. Contrary to popular belief, Twinkies do not live forever.
The Twink-pocalypse
The news of Hostess’s bankruptcy affected people very differently. For some there was disappointment to see Hostess go under. Not so much emotion as just nostalgic love of Hostess, resonating from childhood memories. For others, it was evidence that the apocalypse was upon us. They rushed to every store within a 10-mile radius and cleaned the shelves of the precious, cream-filled snack cakes and stocked their bomb shelters and Bug Out bags for the impending doom. Thankfully the world didn’t end and Twinkies, along with the other Hostess products, were back on shelves July 15th. Hopefully the new-Hostess’s new business strategy will turn a twice-bankrupted company into an again thriving American company.
