Clik here to view.On March 11,2011, many people lost their homes, belongings, and pets in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that rocked Japan. Among those that lost a pet were Kazuko and Takeo Yamagishi, whose home escaped destruction, although many homes in the area were demolished. The Yamagishis spent about three months looking for their lost pet before giving up and presuming that the feline had been killed in the destruction of the tsunami.
Cat found Several Miles Away
A couple spotted the black cat curled up underneath a pine tree in a town about nine miles away from the Yamagishi home on April 10, 2014. The couple noticed that the cat wore a collar, so they took the cat to the nearby Ofunato Health Centre. The cat was kept at the health center for a few days and decided to put an ad in the local paper when nobody claimed him. It was when an employee was taking a picture of the cat that he noticed the barely discernable writing on the tag that had been faded with time. The employees managed to get the phone number of the Yamagishi’s from the tag, and contacted the couple.
The Yamagishis had the cat for twelve year before the tsunami, and were overjoyed to hear that their beloved pet had been found. “It’s just like a dream,” said Kazuko Yamagishi. It is unclear where the cat had been for the last three years, but a small bell that had been added to his collar is evidence that someone may have taken the cat in following the disaster.
