Lilica is a very special dog. As a puppy, she was abandoned in Sao Carlos, a large city in Brazil. A junk yard owner was able to take her in, but unable to supply enough food for her along with the other animals that stay at the junkyard. So Lilica decided to go out and do something about it. Approximately two miles from the junkyard, a woman named Lucia spotted the hungry dog and gave her something to eat.
An Arrangement Begins
Lilica ate a little food from the bag that Lucia had supplied, then picked the bag up and carried it away. The food was spilling, and Lucia was surprised to see that Lilica did not just put the bag down and eat the rest. Despite losing some of the food, the dog continued to carry the bag away. The next day, Lilica came back, so Lucia decided to tie the bag for her when she finished eating her fill. Again, Lilica carried the bag away-this time without losing any food. Curious, Lucia decided to follow the dog. She was astonished to find that Lilica was carrying the rest of the food home to the junkyard, where another dog, a cat, a mule, and chickens would all share the remaining food.
Now, every day Lucia waits for Lilica to come get food for her unlikely brood. Lucia says that she avoids taking vacations or doing anything that may render her unable to meet Lilica at their spot on time. The grateful pooch still shows up every day. Lucia is grateful to be able to help, and admires the charitable spirit of the dog.
