cat-goes-berserk

A family in Oregon fled to a bedroom and called 911 when their 22 pound Himalayan cat Lux went berserk. The incident started when the family’s seven-month-old baby pulled Lux’s tail. The cat scratched the baby on the forehead and the baby’s father, Lee Palmer, responded by kicking the cat in the rear. It was at this time that Lux flew into hysteria, charging at the family. The family, comprised of two adults, the baby, and a dog, ran from the cat and hid in a bedroom. When the family could not get a hold of animal control, they called 911.

Police Response to Call

Palmer told the dispatchers at 911 that the cat was very hostile and charging at the family. He also warned police that the cat has a history of violence and may harm the responding officers.  The officers, responding from the Portland Police Department, were more than a little amused. The officers quickly contained the cat upon entrance into the home, and secured the cat in a crate. The officers then notified the family that it was safe to come out of the bedroom and said that “The cat remained behind bars in the custody of the family and officers cleared the scene and continued to fight crime elsewhere in the city.”

The family is not taking the matter lightly, however, and have been keeping Lux away from the baby and monitoring the cat’s behavior. According to Palmer, the cat’s behavior has been normal since the incident.
