“If you can’t be famous, be infamous,” seems to be George Zimmerman’s motto these days. After being found not guilty of murder in the Trayvon Martin case, Zimmerman was advised by attorneys to keep a low profile. He has not heeded this advice, it would seem. Over the past two months, Zimmerman has been a busy man. He helped remove a family from the wreckage of a car accident, got pulled over for speeding a few times, began proceedings for filing a suit against the state of Florida, and now he has been arrested over a domestic dispute with his wife and father-in-law. It seems that every week Zimmerman makes it a point to reinstate his face on the news.
The Domestic Dispute
Last week, Zimmerman’s wife Shellie filed for divorce. Monday, she and her father went to the house that the couple had shared to pick up some belongings. Shellie had texted Zimmerman to notify him that she would be going to the home. While she and her father were there, Zimmerman came into the home with a friend. A heated discussion ensued between Zimmerman and his father-in-law. Allegedly, Zimmerman punched the older man in the nose. Shellie Zimmerman had been taping the scene on an i-pad, which she claims Zimmerman then destroyed. Zimmerman and the friend retreated to his truck, and Shellie Zimmerman claims that he then threatened her and her father with his firearm, urging them to “Come closer”. Shellie then made the decision to call police, resulting in Zimmerman’s arrest. Shellie Zimmerman and her father decided not to press charges. If the video can be retrieved from the broken i-pad, and it shows that Zimmerman was guilty of domestic violence in this case, the state of Florida may proceed to press charges without the testimony of Shellie Zimmerman and her father.
